Why do farts smell contained by the tub tub?

Why do farts smell contained by the tub tub?
I would think the gas is contained surrounded by a bubble(s) and when released into the air, it's concentrated at one point.
lol! angelic question. i guess because the smell rises out of the wet, like you can smell the brackish from the sea.
